The Marketplace on Monday ~ Whimisical Upcycled Garden Planters

 Good Monday Mornin to You All !

It's a beautiful Monday here at the farmhouse ..it's a rain filled Monday and I "Love" the rain. We don't get rain all that often here and it makes the times it does rain all the more enjoyable. I love hearing it fall .. the smell of the freshly wet ground .. the sound of it dripping from the porch rafters and the cool humidness of the air. And I can't wait to see things green  up and bloom out even more.

Well it's that time again .. time for "The Marketplace" every Monday over at Common Ground ! If your not familiar with The Marketplace it's a link party for Online shop owners rather you have your own website or sell on Etsy... etc. you can link up a few of your items you are offering for sale ..and then go shopping at everyone else's shops  ! It's a lot of fun !

This week I'm feeling the beauty of Spring and Garden Season ... and reminiscing a bit.

I was remembering one of our June Markets when we were still selling at Christie Repasy's home before the vintage marketplace grew and it had to be moved to a larger venue. Abbey and I had a blast that April and May ..of 2010 getting ready for the market creating some One of a Kind Garden Pieces ...

This Sweet Old Chair most likely from the late 1800's early 1900's became a planter .. We dressed her in white .. gave her a crown and some sparkling prisms .. added some old lace trim around the bottom and a cute vintage crystal plate garden stake. Needless to say this chair didn't stick around very long at all ..

This too sweet piece we upcycled from an old tool box .. I believe this carried a large electric saw in in at one time and was red when we got it.. We bathed it in a beautiful aqua .. added some old burlap and a mirror to the back of the lid .. some chain to the sides to hold the lid up from falling back all the way...and Bed Spring Feet ..and yes it bounced when the wind blew ..I loved how whimsical this piece came out !

And this old Metal Locker/Trunk ..we found laying in the trash at no less a local antique shop ..what were they thinking ? Well as they say another man's trash is another man's treasure and we saw what this piece could become .. This piece was originally black which was a perfect under layer for the pink paint we put on her .. Then we added some turned wood legs ...I had an oval mirror which I soldered some scalloped edge too and added it inside the lid ..along with a cute metal and prism banner that reads Dream. Abbey wanted a miniature trellis for the pieces so she built that sweet trellis from 1/2 round trim. Too too darling ..well girls this piece didn't find a home in 2010 ..so it came home with us.. and to this day it grace's our Garden .. I love looking at it every time I go in the back yard. And with all the weather she has aged to perfection wonderfully rusty and worn.

So Being in the Spring And Garden Spirit ..This week at Common Ground ...I featured our new line of Bath Soaps and Lotions we are offering in our blog shop.

Wild Rose, Verbena, and Lavender Flower. Oh my gosh these are so wonderful ! I used to carry these in our shop when we had an actual brick and mortar spot ..and decided we had to start offering them here online for everyone to enjoy ! ..These are made with shea butter and are just positively luxurious and smell divine !

And If you love the Charming Faucet style soap holder they are pictured in ,..those are available in the blog shop too ...

The Soaps Lotions and Faucet Soap Holder can be found HERE

 And this week I did a second feature .. I couldn't resist with spring and garden being in mind ..!

So I featured our Oh So Lovely "Time Began in a Garden" flour sack towel.

It's Bright, Cheery and Refreshing and just welcomes spring in to your Home ..

It's available HERE

Free Printable ~ Charming Sweet Alyssum Seed Packet ~ Enjoy !

It's a Lovely Saturday here at the farmhouse ..we had fog overnight and the morning has stayed beautifully overcast with a cool onshore breeze... These make for mornings I so thoroughly enjoy !

Today's free printable is another piece from our personal collection ...

This antique seed packet is one of the more beautiful ones we have and one of my favorites because it's for Sweet Alyssum.

We love growing alyssum once it's planted it's such an easy keeper and the honey sent that permeates the air when in bloom is just intoxicating. I don't handle perfumes and such at all but this is one floral scent that seems to really agree with me ...

I think this would be such a beautiful piece blown up and framed ..or wouldn't it make the most charming garden stake or garden ornament !

I know at lowe's in the roofing section they sell small galvanized squares of metal. I think they are about 5 x 8 maybe 4 x6 .. but around that size and for only like 68 cents each. Your could purchase one of those and drill a couple holes in the top corners . Then print this out .. Modge podge it on ..then use a clear spray to coat it and  add a jute or twine hanger you would have an adorable garden hanger ..

Or how about a Garden journal ?... This would make the most beautiful front !

There's so many fun ideas for using this seed packet ....

The Back side if you would like it along with the front is located on our "Free Printables" page .

Have a Lovely weekend Farmhouse Friends ...

Garden Art .. Bicycles and Posies

As the warmth of spring bears down upon us all .. our hearts navigate to the outdoors .. where the rays of the sun warm our bodies and the beautiful blooms of God's handiwork Warms our hearts ...
Planting colorful flowers in the garden is not only good for the soul ..but it makes for a beautiful place to relax and enjoy..
I have always loved old bikes used as Garden Art  .. and here at the farmhouse we have a sweet old bike in it's original rusty and crusty blue paint that leans upon an old pine tree with a sweet wood bird feeder above. The birds use it to perch on during the day while taking turns at the feeder ..and I have always enjoyed it. Normally I would take a photo of it to share with you all ..however I must admit it's been neglected since winter began and it's really time for us to clean up the foliage and begin to re-plant ... but we just haven't had a moments time to get out there and spruce it all up .. ..
Bicycles make such great garden art.. especially for those who may have a small yard space .. being that they are long and thin .. it makes them easy to stand alone or lean against a tree or fence .. and create a fabulous backdrop for your garden ...
Any old bicycle will work even a newer one that you may find at a flea market, garage sale or even put an add on craigslist that you want an old rusty bicycle .. you would be surprised there's more out there than you realize  ...and if you find a bike that's not your taste in looks just paint it the color you desire and Voila .. you've got yourself  some lovely Garden art as these below ..
...

Be Still my heart with this Pink Sweetie .. I love the use of the wooden baskets on this bike ..and the Wildflowers blooming so heartily in them !  The Pink really gives such a dreamy feeling to this garden...

 And this Beauty all bathed in pristine white ..is just stunning .. I love the use of the large round wire baskets ..and especially the watering can in front . Not only is this one Garden Art ..but such an amazing Garden Display ... !

 And  I love Love Love this Red bike .. with the natural basket and Straw Hat ... So very Country and Farm Style .. such a true down home appeal to it.

Here Comes A whole Ray of Sunshine ... Now this bike just makes your heart scream out and sing ... It Says' Happy all over it ! Yellow really gives off a lot of positive energy ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vintage Bikes as Garden Art .. Just another way to make your garden and those who enter it smile ! And as you can see .. Any color looks amazing ..and really sets the mood and tone of the garden ..so consider what feeling you want your garden to express.
A few tips on adding Baskets .. if you can't find actual bike baskets .. as you see in these photos .. any basket will do .... even old crates or buckets can be used.  I have found that wiring or using zip ties or even twist ties work well to hold the baskets onto the bike.
Also when planting your baskets, if they have a lot of holes in them be sure to add plenty of Moss to the inside, ... This will help to secure the soil and hold in moisture ...and you also will need to water more often if you live in a drier climate like we do.
And always when buying your flowers consider where your bike is going to be placed in the garden and how much full sun it gets. You want to be sure to buy the right flowers for the right setting be it shade, partial shade, full sun or partial sun .. ..
Happy Gardening to all of you .. May your Gardens Be Cheery and Bright ..a place to make your Heart Sing and Your Soul Calm ..
A Beautiful day in the Sweet Magnolias Farm Garden
It's been a beautiful day here in our little house with out little garden.
It's not much of a garden not the way we dream of a garden being ..but it has just enough beautiful blooms this time of year to make us smile.
As I was out playing with Flossie this morning ..I noticed that all the pots were filled with an over abundance of blooms .. and I decided to go inside grab one of my old pint size milk bottles and fill it with a Fresh Spring Bouquet ..
 It Turned out so Pretty if I do say so myself .. I love a natural flow to arranging flowers .. I personally am more of an english garden enthusiast where all the vines and flowers overflow into one another .
The front thick ruffled light pink blooms are "Rose Geranium" Those reminded me of the sweet friend who gave them to us .. Rita Read of Mammabellarte. One day when we were visiting her home ..we oooeeed and ahhhd over how unique a geranium it was to us ..and she was kind enough to pass on a clipping which we propogated and grew our own plant from .. This was it's first open bloom and there are more to come !
 I added a sweet tattered scrap of burlap to the neck of the bottle and shredded buralp remnants from my sewing projects I stuck in here and there creating a cute spray coming out of the flowers.
 This Geranium above I purchased a few years back when Target had their Garden Centers ... It's a "Peppermint Twist".. I loved when Target had their garden dept. They honestly got some  of the most  unique flowers not to mention David Austen Roses ..and some of the most beautiful Garden Decor too ! ...
 Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the daisies above .. But I do know I still love their veregated hue ..These cam from the Armstrong Nursery ..Locally and they have a wonderful and unique variety of flowers not to mention their garden shop is so lovely to meander in .. I love going there and strolling the aisles of flowers and listening to the water fountains .. If I could only take a mattress I think I could sleep there all day !
 It's just been a really lovely day .. a nice warm on shore breeze .. the Wind blew a bit late this afternoon and it was singing in the pines just across the lake from us .. it was a lovely sound and reminded me of the days we lived in Missouri on our farm. We had a huge stand of Pines and every time the wind blew or a storm came through .. the Pines had a Lovely Song to sing.
So Here's to a Beautiful Spring Afternoon ... a Glass of Pink Lemonade in My Mason Jar Pedestal Drinking Glass .. a lemon tucked on the side and the rim dipped in sugar !
We do offer the Mason Jar Pedestal Glasses in our Etsy Shop HERE
Wishing you all a Beautiful Week !
A view of our little tiny itty bitty piece of a Garden ..
A view of our teenie tiny garden.....
I think it's the tiniest yard we have ever had ...no let me re-phrase that "it is the tiniest yard" we have ever had.
But it's sweet ..that is when my piles of stuff aren't back there to mess it all up.
Last week ..as we were standing in the kitchen ...this old door was leaned just perfectly in front of the kitchen window ....It framed the view of our garden and the lake that is behind us ..ever so sweetly !
I can't remember a time that we haven't loved birds ..this wonderful Martingale house as they are called in the midwest ...we attatched to an antique turned wood house post and it stands high peeking through our little pine tree. We brought this Martingale house back from MO ..from many years back when we lived there ..it's a little piece of our home and memories there that we won't ever part with ..the Sentimental Value is just too great !
Along the way ..we found this cute Umbrella Bird feeder at a sale ...and it hangs beautifully from the shepeards hook ...the birds lite there throughout the day and peck at the seed and fill there little bellies with God's sweet Manna ...
Another reminder of our Days of living in MO is the Beautiful Metal Garden Arbor ...Yes we bought it there ..In Riverview Antique Mall ...and carried it all the way back to CA ..it's only gotten better with age and it's another piece I'm afraid will stay with us for a very long time ...inside it is our charming old bird bath ...and oh how the birdies love it ..they bathe in the afternoon ..flitting and twisting and wriggling about ..getting all their feathers dusted in water droplets ...and then fly away so refreshed ...It's always fun to see 5 or 10 of them bathing together ...It puts a smile on our face everytime ..
This fun piece the "tower" as it is referred to around here ..I recently purchased at a sale ...it wasn't in the best shape ..and Papa Fred ..diligently worked to restore it and gave it a fresh new coat of white paint and it is so so beautiful now. I had plans for it ..but he loves putting his geranium on top ...so for now it's his ..Since this picture he's added 2 shelves and put 2 more plants inside it ..which looks so lovely ...
I didn't realize when we took pictures that so many of our favorite pieces in the Garden are from our days of living in MO ..how ironic that so many are ..
This Stained glass window was a dear little find ...one we got on a trip we took north one day to Kansas City ...
When we lived in Mo ...making a Kansas City Trip for Antiquing was actually a frequent trip for us. having grown up in CA ..we are so used to commuting ..that 3 hours north was like a bad day in traffic going to L.A. ... so the open road ...no Traffic ..and all that Beauty was just a hop skip and jump away to us.
Meet Shelly ...He's our oversized Turtle ...that really is such a Great Pet ..Our Pet Hose Holder .
Yes Shelly made his way home with us about 4 years ago .. a trip to Target and we found him all lonely in the garden center and no less they had put him on clearance ..well here we are 4 years later and still attatched to him.
These sweet little daisies grace the arm of our adirondack chair ...and were smiling beautiful ...as to say ..won't you take a picture of me today !!!
Lastly ...The Roses ...have been blooming out beautifully this year ..Overall we have had a milder summer than usual ..and I think the Roses are smiling more this year. Their branches have been loaded with Beautiful Fragrant Blooms ..it's been a delight to see the yard lit up with so many this year ...
Our David Austen Rose ..that I have forgotten the name of ..It's a gorgeous Pink Cottage Rose ..and although this variety is not fragrant ..the blooms it gets are outstanding. I love the way the petal feel when I run my fingers over them ..or when you touch an open bloom to your cheek ..it's like a velvet that cannot be reproduced by any other way than Nature itself.
I think God did an amazing job creating Nature ..I stand in Awe !
Well thanks for stopping by and taking a peek at our itty bitty garden ..Oh there's plenty more to share that we have tucked in here and there ..but I'll save that for another post to share with you down the road.
Have a Lovely week ..and I'll be back real soon ..to chat with you all ..
Blessings ..Sara
Olivenhain Grove Sale Tomorrow ..and my Estate Sale Find !!!
Wow ...Hi there all ...My goodness it's been such a long while since I sat down and took time to Blog ...
We have been working like crazy from Dawn to Dusk preparing all kinds of wonderful goodies for the Olivenhain Grove Sale that starts tomorrow... Wow Ziggity ...between all the normal day to day things and work too ..I have barely seen my computer as of late ..which means ..I've missed out on chatting with all my fellow blogging friends ..and Of course I haven't had time to list any new offerings as of late in our Etsy shop or our Website ..so hoping to get that started here very soon after the show is over.
If you live close to the San Marcos area ..then you ought to stop in tomorrow or Saturday between 10 and 4 and see all the wonderful offerings from the 30 + vendors that have set up. If you need directions ..the address is in my sidebar ..just mapquest it.
So I thought I would share 2 things that are headed to the show tomorrow ...
First up is this so so cute Old metal Ice Chest ..that was headed for the Ice Chest Graveyard ..LOL !!! I saved it ...and gave it a new life ...Abbs and I turned it into this wonderul Cottage Garden Planter ..Fully in Bloom with gorgeous flowers ..!
We ...Even added antique caster wheels to the bottom ..which you can't see here ..but it really makes the piece wonderful ..Add a Burlap tie in the center and some old metal letters strung on rustic curly wire inside the lid that spell out the word Garden ...and You have a sweet little Garden that puts a smile on your face.
This Cottage Garden will be available tomorrow morning at 10 sharp ..so hurry in and make it yours ..!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Next up is this sweet old potted antique chair ...

I know potting chairs has been around a while ...however it really hasn't fallen out of style for those of us that love a cottage garden and a bit of whimsy. The chair makes such a great conversation piece ..and really adds a beautiful backdrop for your favorite flowers.

This chair comes in a lovely light aqua color ..A red Geranium falls out the side ..and is actually potted in an old galvenized bucket that has been fitted into the chair ...An old hose I painted up in white ..wraps itself around the chair ever so charmingly and an old vintage soaker end is screwed on the end for that vintage charm. ...And Lastly ..some vintage metal letters spell out the word Bliss ..because this chair truly is a bit of Bliss !!!

The potted Garden Chair will also be available tomorrow at 10 Sharp ...

******************************

Well I made the most fun find this last week at an estate sale ...In fact ..I went to the sale bought a bunch of stuff and left ...and a few hours later I ended up back at it because I realized there was some old hardware I wanted ..anyhow ..this time I took my time and started looking through some old cans of oil and spray paint ..and came across some cans that said "Sparkling Tinsel" on them.

Of course that made me curious and wondered what exactly "Sparkling Tinsel" was ..so I found a pair of old scissors and pryed the tops off ..and to my absolute delight ..my heat pitty pattered ..inside just about full to the top all 3 cans were filled with ...Antique ..."GLASS GLITTER"

O.k. are these so cool ....!!!

So your wondering what I am going to do with them ...Well these are staying put with me ..I'm sure these are one find I probably won't happen on anytime soon again. And I have a dream of having a wonderful work room with cabinetry and shelves all laid out with my supplies ..and these would be one of those spotlight pieces that I would of course decorate with. So these will be waiting ever so patiently for that one day when my room comes along ..and maybe I'll use just a little glitter on something special for my own home.

Well ..I'm about ready to fall over ..so tired ..and yet so excited about tomorrow ..I'm looking forward to getting our shop all set up in the morning ..and greeting old friends and new friends ..and of course sending our new offerings off to new Home Sweet Homes !

Wishing you all a Beautiful Weekend ..Blessings ..Sara

This Weeks Estate Sale Finds ...

Remember my Lucky Penny earlier this week ????

I think it's a long lasting one ...LOL !!!

Today we had several estate sales lined up to hit ...the first one I found a few things ...but the second one ...I just about fell over when I walked in one of the bedrooms after the sale had been open for 30 minutes and found all this wonderful lace and linens ...to my amazement.

I couldn't believe no one had touched it ...then I remembered my Lucky Penny earlier this week ...and figured God's Blessing was still pouring out on me ..I must admit it feels rather good ..because I have my days like I'm sure many of you when I feel rather unworthy of God's blessings.

So here's some picts of my Blessings..

The long piece to the right is a slip ..and Oh is it cute ...if I were only the size I "USED" to be ..I'd be wearing it proudly ..But since i'm not ..well it's going to become somthing else ...LOL !!! and are those lace butterfly appliques just not the sweetest ..I can't wait till Abbs or I figure out what to add those too !!!

The Lace hankies are just Gorgeous ..those I will leave as they are and will get them washed and pictures taken and make them available for purchase...they are far to pretty to cut up !!!

This set of 4 flower frogs ..I feel in love with ..with spring just around the corner they are coming into season once again ..and of all things they are in 4 descending sizes from Small to large ..so when they are stacked they are so wonderful ...I love using the old frogs to hold old ephemera and photos ...Don't they look so perfect this way ...!!! I found these at the first sale we hit this morning ...so much fun !!! These I will be listing in our Etsy store this evening.

This needlepoint stool I just love ..I missed out on another one some other lucky gal got it ..but I look at it this way we both got to go home with a lovely treat.

This is the top ...it's in a chocolate brown with a pink, blue and light heather flower and leaves ...just scrumptious ..!!!

Lastly ...I picked up this set of old pyrex refrigerator dishes ...This pattern is "Amish Butterprint" . I don't know about all of you ..but glass is the best way to keep left overs ..hands down over plastic. I do admit we use tupperware here at the farm ..as sometimes it's what works ..but we do keep the plastic to a minimum and try to stick with glass ..it not only is healthier but it sure keeps the food well and the bonus is when you open your frig door ..there's style inside ..!!!

I'm headed over to Etsy just as soon a I finish here and will be listing ..The Frogs, The needlepoint Stool and the Pyrex Refirgerator Dishes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well I picked up several other goodies today ...a whole bunch of antique garden tools ..which I hope to get picts of tomorrow ...and get them listed on our website ...Plus I will be listing several new offerings on our site in the next few days ...Pieces I picked up on Monday when we went antiquing ...
And can you believe it ...there's another Estate Sale starting tomorrow morning ..will I be there ??? You can count on it ...I have Estate Sale addiction ...and my Truck knows just where to turn ...LOL !!!
Hope this day finds all of my Kindred Friends doing well and with a smile on your face and in your heart !
Blessings ...Sara
