Cherish Today ~ How To Stay Young .. by Marth Southerland

It's a beautiful Sunday Morning Here in the Ozarks ... It's been a busy week choc full of work and next week looks to be the same. I feel so blessed to have a job I do dearly love ..

I read this beautiful devotion this week from Mary Southerland of Girlfriends in God .. and wanted to share it with you all ..

It's so very true and full of much wisdom...

September 26, 2019
Cherish Today
Mary Southerland
Today’s Truth
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10, NIV).
Friend to Friend
In April, I celebrated my 69th birthday! Honestly, I didn’t think I would live this long. Seriously! Where have the years gone? It seems every day of life has been jam-packed full of both wonderful and horrible things I wondered if I would survive and yet, here I am, going strong and wondering why there always seems to be some kind of helicopter still landing in my life.

I have some advice for you, girlfriend. If you are a young woman, it really is true that you should cherish every day and every moment with your friends and family because the older you get, the quicker the days fly by. I look at my children who are married and having children of their own and wonder where all of those years went. How did this happen?

If you are an older woman, take a deep breath and celebrate the fact that you are breathing. If you are alive, I believe God has a purpose and plan for your life. Give yourself a pat on the back for your survival skills. Take a few moments to reflect on your life and don’t get hung up on what might have been. Celebrate what is and what will be.

I have discovered some wonderful advantages to growing older and have learned some valuable lessons along the way. Each chapter of life seems to grow more exciting and I keep wondering when that “slow down” thing is going to kick in. I am no longer overly concerned with a lot of things that once kept me awake at night. There is great freedom in having paid a lot of “life dues” because I have already been there, done that and don’t really care about getting the T-shirt.

I can say with authority that you probably will live through that crisis you think will be the death of you. What defines you today may very well seem ridiculous in ten years or even ten days. Stupidity will give way to wisdom learned the hard way. I now give myself permission to do or not do things I once would have felt compelled to do simply because it was someone’s ridiculous expectation … not God’s plan. My audience has certainly changed over the years from the people who love to leer at me through the glass bowl in which I live to running the race of life for an audience of One.
Yes, there are moments when I have made a frenzied and desperate attempt to stay young. But then, why would I want to do that? There are many years of my life I really do not want to revisit and there is so much of my life now that I love. During one of those youth seeking moments, I came across the following list of ways to stay young and found it quite interesting.

How to Stay Young
1. Throw out non-essential numbers such as your age, weight and height.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. If you really need a grouch, there are probably family members to fill that need.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Just never let the brain idle.
4. Enjoy the simple things. When the children are young, that is all you can afford. When they are in college that is all you can afford. When they are grown, and you are on retirement, that is all you can afford.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. Laugh so much that you can be tracked in the store by your distinctive laughter.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person that is with us our entire life is ourselves.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it is family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies or whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Go to the mall, the next county, a foreign country - but not guilt.
10. Tell the people you love how much you love them every chance you get. Never assume they know.
11. Don't worry about things you cannot change or do anything about. Accept them and move on.
12. Read more and dust less.
13. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. Recognize these moments now and cherish them.
14. Do not "save" anything. Use your good china and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the next blossom of flowers you see.
16. Wear your best outfit and perfume to the market.
17. "Someday" and "one of these days" should vanish from your vocabulary. If it is worth seeing or hearing or doing, go and see or hear or do it now.
What about you? Are you living each day to the fullest? Jesus is all about living an abundant life in the here and now … whatever stage of life that may be for you. Jesus came so that we can live abundantly and eternally. Eternity began the moment you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Let’s Pray

Father, I want to live life to the fullest. I want everything You have for me and don’t want to miss a single blessing or trial that is for my good. Please help me keep my eyes on You and celebrate every day and all that it holds. I trust You, Lord, to work all things together for my good and Your glory.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

His Abundant Love, His Able Arms, just Let Go

Good Sunday Morning. I pray your day is a blessed one .. I pray your week ahead is full of God's abundant love showering you. I pray that if you're weary you let him carry you, I pray if you're tired of mind you let him take care of all the worries that have been piling up making you feel overwhelmed. Life is demanding, tiring, exhausting at times.. sometimes of our own creation and other times simply it's just life events that unfold each day around us.  Hand it all over to God right now. Let him carry your cares, your worries, your tiredness, exhaustion, illness, .. some things  in life won't change immediately .. but the way we react or even see them can if only we let the Lord be part of them .  Today and each day this coming week let him carry you in his arms ...

 Isaiah 40:28-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

AMEN !!!!

Until next time

God has a thousand ways !

TRUTH ! In the last 6 months I can attest to this being so true . I had been praying about a situation since fall of last year and asking the Lord to give me wisdom and show me the direction he knew was best .. that answer didn't come until March of this year and he sent it through a sequence of unforeseen events and through someone I had never met. There was no denying the answer it was so amazing in how it came wrapped to me in a beautiful package only he could have wrapped. Don't give up sometimes the wait is long but keep praying and keep waiting he will reveal his answer in his perfect time ...
Isaiah 43:18-19, "Forget what happened long ago! Don’t think about the past. I am creating something new. There it is! Do you see it? I have put roads in deserts, streams in thirsty lands." (CEV)
Isaiah 45:3, "I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name." (NIV)
Have a Beautiful and Blessed Sunday ..

Making Summer Memories

Well I hope your Summer is off to a wonderful start.  It's another hot day here .. the heat has officially arrived.

Well they say summer is about making memories and we made our own funny memory last night .. Abbey had been wanting to get out and see some fireflies .. well I went to take Flossie out and there were a bunch around a pine tree so I told her to come out and look this sparked the idea we would go out on a night drive in the country to see the fields and trees alight .. so we headed out and drove for near an hour down back roads. I think we saw about 10 of them total LOL..Yep qute the memory ! So I've come to the conclusion today that our pine tree is firefly central because there were about 30 of them buzzing it before we left ...it seriously looked like a lit up Christmas tree with all those white flickering lights .. and several fireflies were still there when we got back .. I think we failed to get the memo that that pine tree was having a summer firefly party last night.  Here's to Summer Memory Making !

Until next time

All new Vintage Goodness at "The Vintage Peddler"

Well keeping shop is always a lot of work .. from finding antique and vintage goods that you love and hope other will love.. to cleaning, tagging, bookkeeping, hauling, and decorating and I'm sure I left a few other things out .. it's not all fun and games.

Over my 20 + yrs of selling vintage and hand made's I can't tell you how many times I have run into gals that say they are going to get shop space because it looks like so much fun .. Well it is fun but there's a whole lot more to it than fun. It's a never ending daily job that's a lot of work and if you sell online too like I do .. my hours are all day every day .. the door doesn't close at 5 .. cause all Y'all .. get home from work or the gym or pickin' up the kids and then need to ask questions or want quick shipping and there I am at 9 at night wrapping up some goodies to get them out quick so I can make all Y'all Happy ! .. And that's my pleasure.. no complaints here .. I love what I do .. and wouldn't want to do anything else .. but just sharing that it's a full time job and it's not always fun .. most the time but it has it's moments when you just look and thing what am I doing ?

Well I am having so much fun and I've got lots of work to go with that fun ... with my new shop space at The Vintage Peddler.

In years past I've always had big spaces like 12 x 14  etc .. that's a lot of space to fill and keep filled.
This new shop space is 4 ft deep x 12 ft long .. I wondered how I wold like having a shallow long space since I've never worked with those dimensions before .. well I'm loving it .. and Now that I said that about the dimensions it's come to mind that Abbey and I used to do Glitterfest long ago and we set up on 8 foot tables and then went up so this is sorta similar and I loved the challenge Glitterfest was so that's probably why I'm loving this space ..

Anyhow I'm just jibber jabbering on about a whole lot of nothing .. I wanted to share with y'all that this last weekend my shop space got it's first revamp since opening it. I was so blessed to sell my big cupboard and with that sold It opened the door for me to add a few more cupboards and lots of new vintagey goodness ..

So here it is Enjoy ..

If you would like to visit our shop space .. it is located in "The Vintage Peddler" antique Mall in Springfield, MO 1432 E. Trafficway.

Life is about Moments ....

Good Monday morning to you all .. I'm praying for a beautiful week with lots of joy in it .. cause who doesn't like a life filled with some joyful moments... Sometimes you have to create your own joyful moments and recently I have done that. Some of you know and others may not that my parents and I share our home together. I was the young gal .. now middle aged ( did I just really say middle aged ? ) that stayed single, no children ( just fur babies) and ended up finding that my parents and I were and still are the best of friends. Anyhow recently I found a great blog through another FB page that shared about it ... some of you may know it "Sean of the South". He writes short columns/ snippets about his life, his family and those he meets along life's highways and biways .. he captures the true heart of man, the reality of life and touches on how we just need to be "KIND" ... and I have to say I love his blog and style of writing. I shared it with my mom and of course she loved it too .. so each night I read 1 page from his blog which amounts to about 10 stories .. out loud to her ..It takes me a little over 1/2 an hour or so .. it works out for both of us because I love to read be it silently to myself or out loud and as she's grown older she has a hard time reading for any long period of time .. she in fact listens to a lot of books online. I was reading aloud the other night and it dawned on me we were creating a moment, a joyful one, one neither of us will forget. That moment sorta found us but was created by a choice I made to do something I knew she would love. So when you think your to busy or to tired or to anything and you have a chance to create a moment be it with a loved one or even a total stranger .. don't pass it up. Life is very short .. it goes by so quick .. don't miss the special moments ..

And if you get a moment be sure and visit Sean of the South Blog or FB page .. His stories will change your heart...

Have a great week Y'all ..
Until Next Time

Sunday Blessings at Sweet Magnolias Farm

I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend so far .. I've had a lot going on the last 5 days and today I'm taking a little rest. I was reading one of my devotionals this week and One profound sentence/question really touched my heart. With all the big decisions I've been making lately about my work and my future this was very touching to my heart ..

" What if your purpose was found by the way you live out your faith and grow according to God’s Word and in your knowledge of Jesus? ....

I can tell you the more I have engaged in prayer, read the word of God and searched for him in all I do .. I have realized that my purpose is strictly about my Faith and everything else is simply an extension of it.  My Core is the finely tuned child of Christ that he knit in my mothers womb and that core/soul must be nourished daily with the word of God just as my body needs to be nourished with good food to stay strong and healthy .. so does my soul ...

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these. things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

One of a Kind Patriotic Buntings from my heart and my hands ~ Sweet Magnolias Farm Originals

I don't know about You all but I love me some Red, White and Blue ..!!!
For as many years back as I can remember 4th of July is one of my favorite times of the year .. I have no idea why that is nothing special happened to me personally that made me love it .. beyond loving what it represents.

Maybe it's because my Birthday is just a few days shy of it ?
Or
Maybe I just love the vibrant colors and the joy they bring to my heart.

I can remember in the 1990's as a young 20 something young woman .. wanting flag writing pens, a flag jacket, and anything Ralph Lauren bedding that was red white and blue floral. In fact I splurged and bought the RL cottage rose and flag sheets that he put out and still have them to this day .. and love them just as much as when I first got them.

I guess it's just my thing !

Last year a sweet gal that's a client through my Etsy shop and had purchased some of my upcycled shirts emailed me a little tutorial she had found on making patriotic buntings. Well the tutorial wasn't bad but it didn't create a very permanent bunting.. So I set out to create on for this gal but wanted it to be more traditional but unique in that they are made from vintage and upcycled materials and if you have followed what I love to make over the years you'll know I love creating One of  kind pieces .. so I wanted each one to be a OOAK .. so each person that purchases one and hangs knows that theirs is the only one like it .. I guess to me it just makes the piece a little bit more special .

Well this year started out with a bang (Hah no pun intended but I like it) ... and I have been feverishly at my sewing table designing and sewing together buntings for the season.

Here are just a few of them that have either already found homes
OR
are available in my Etsy shop HERE

These are a true work of my heart and hands ..
My Heart: a lot of love goes into making each one and getting every detail
just right. From fabrics the not only compliment one another but really make the piece shine, to loving how it all comes together in the end.
and
My Hands: well I love the process of piecing it all together, I love the feeling of the fabrics and I love the heavy weight that makes if feel so sturdy when it's complete.

Each bunting from start to finish takes about 5 to 6 hours depending on how many layers I put together how many details go into it and that big red check double ruffle at the bottom .. well that's the longest part of the process believe it or not. That's a "LOT" of yardage .. approx 14 running yards go into making that long ruffle .. to say that part is time consuming is an understatement.

One of my favorite parts of making these buntings is the Blue Canton. Deciding what remnant of an old shirt, dress, or linen will make up the piece and make it stand out. This one above ... is made from shirt sleeves.. I even left the buttons on and the cuffs .. this was a bit of piecing work and figuring out how to get it all to lay just right so it looked right .. in the end it took some extra time but I really was happy with the outcome...

And those Red Rosettes .. those are all handmade .. and they can get a little tricky making each one and having it lay right .. attaching it is also another step I'll admit is what i least like doing .. but that red rosette is like the icing on a cake .. it's just not cake without some good buttercream frosting and it's just not a finished bunting without the beautiful red rosette .. at least in my opinion.

Well If you would like one of these beauties there are currently a few available in my Etsy shop .. I just listed them tonight ..

Oh and did I mention these are wonderfully large .. they are approx 58" wide x 34" L
Perfect for the porch. hung from the mantle in your home since we don't use the fireplace during the summer. They look wonderful over a bed .. or are stunning on the bed or at the foot of the bed.

Well I hope you all enjoy a little of the work of my heart and hands ..

Thanks for stopping in ..
Until Next Time
Sweet Blessings .. Sara

Welcome To Garrison Spring ~ a Hidden Jewel in the Ozarks

I hope you all had a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend.
Mine was fairly simple and much like any other weekend .. stayed home and did some work around the house. Then went and checked on my shop space at Spring Creek Antiques and a friend of mine who works there reminded me of a beautiful little spot tucked away and about 3 or 4 minutes from the shop ... Garrison Spring.

I had seen a few photos on line and heard a few people talk about it before but I had yet to go see this place of beauty for myself ..

Abbey was with me and I asked if she wanted to go check it out and we agreed we both wanted to go.

Amazingly this place is tucked away "right in town" ..

We began our journey down a little tiny country road barely big enough for 1 car let alone 2. The beauty of the Ozarks are the trees and my favorite thing here are the tree canopied country roads so I wasn't disappointed as the entire journey of about a mile was nothing but one long continuous tree canopy.

Upon arriving we were greeted by this welcoming sign ..

We drove further in to the property down the crunchy gravel road .. Green grasses, trees and natural plant life surrounds you in this beautiful jewel of a place ...

And then the crowning jewel .. the stunning spring waterfall ... spilling out and over the moss covered glades the spring water rushed .. the sound was simply mesmerizing. Having lived on the west coast when I visited the ocean I always enjoyed listening to the roar of the waves ... this was such a different sound. There was the large booming crashes of the waves against the sand .. this was a constant sound of water splashing upon the glades and the sound filled the air and bounced back off the trees .. enveloping you. It was indeed a peaceful place.

A sweet walking bridge and sitting area right next to the waterfall has been provided and one day I will be heading back when I have time to just sit a while and enjoy nature in all it's glory.

Beyond the springs .. there is a plethora of park like settings .. Benches dot the landscape where you can stroll through the grounds and sit and watch the squirrels play or the birds flit from tree to tree. I even imagine if you're there at the right time you just might find yourself enjoying a few deer too.

The spring water makes it way down the road side through it's own glorious tree canopy .. washing along the rocky bottom, sparkling clear water, rippling along, with the gentlest sound. I'm afraid I could sit for hours with a good book, a sandwhich, some water, and a few cookies and never want to leave.

Thank you to the Braswells who own this amazing piece of beauty and allow the public to come in and enjoy it too. I'll be back .. for a bit lengthier stay next time ..

Until Next Time
