A Little Fun on the Side With Custom Designs ...here at the farmhouse

Hey there you all

Well Happy Fall !

I hope You're all savoring the Fall weather ..although it's not so very fall in our neck of the woods .. been a bit on the warm and very dry side here .. but I hear the cool weather is treating everyone else to a beautiful fall color change and cool crisp and breezy days ..

It's been a while once again since I last blogged .. I don't think I'll ever get the blogging on a regular basis down to a science ..there just too many variables in life that take me in so many other directions that I seriously some days could multiply myself times 3 or 4 ... LOL !

This last month has been extra busy .. with a small business you always have to "Try" and be ahead of the game and well this year we tried with all our might to get Christmas out early for all those gals who are just clamoring to get in the Holiday Spirit early ... I know for some of you it's too early .. you want to savor fall and Thanksgiving and I totally understand that .. it seems for us that the holidays move on by so quick and that you are started on one before another even ends ..

Well in all my Christmas Hustle and Bustle the last month .. I Had a fun Custom Project I was hired to design and create by "Touch By Time Vintage Rentals."  I know I've mentioned them once or twice before .. A Mother Daughter Team Like Abbey and I .. Only they are in the wonderful business of making great memories through vintage Prop Rentals for Weddings, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Baby and Wedding Showers etc. and during this time of year Family Photo Shoots for Christmas.

Nancy and Kelly .. Planned a  Christmas BOHO by the Sea Session for Families this year ( just one of their unique Christmas sessions)  .. and asked me to provide them with a Burlap and Lace Bohemian Teepee they could use at the Ocean for their Prop... and I'm always up for designing custom Pieces ..it's a nice change from my day to day work.

So I began the process literally having 1 day to dedicate to designing, assembling and completing it ..

When Making these much larger items .. I love the designing stage .. but I can't say I love the assembling stage .. Of course the larger the project like this teepee it's always far more awkward getting all that material up on the sewing table and through the machine .. and this piece was no exception...

I love working with odds and ends and scraps .. looking at each piece in a new light and how it can be arranged so that it fits that Free Style BOHO look yet has continuity.

The above Picture and the below one are just a few quick shots I took well because Flossie sauntered in  from the back yard and plunked herself down inside the teepee .. as if I was making it for her .. LOL !

But it captures a little of the work I was doing .. by adding the vintage Lace and ribbon trims ..

Now some people would probably have possibly opted to try and glue the pieces on .. and I suppose for a one time use or just using it at home that might work .. however this piece will end up being rented out numerous times throughout a year and it really has to withstand being carried to and fro so for me sewing every piece on was really the best choice to give Nancy and Kelly a quality Piece that will last and look great for a long time to come.

That being said when you work with so many odds and end pieces that are randomly shaped .. well it's a lot of work pinning it all together and then getting that amount of fabric with all those pinned pieces onto the machine and then turning it in the head of the machine etc....

Well I did it ..it was a challenge but in the end I won ( not saying there wasn't just a few frustrating moments LOL ) .. and well it came out  just beautiful ...

Kelly and Nancy .. set it up with some of their beautiful small props( Pillows, crates, benches, lanterns etc) .. and London Light Photography shot the Family Photos  and it all turned out to be a fabulous Christmas BOHO by the sea ...!

Another Fun ..Custom Design I worked on for Nancy and Kelly this summer .. were these Rustic Ruffled Wedding Chair Covers ..

These Charming Chair covers ..were a lot of fun to Design and Create..

The Mr. and Mrs. Chair Signs are actually removable .. I designed 2 other sets for Brides and Grooms to choose from ..

And this adorable Couple chose them as their prop for their Engagement Session and will be using them at their wedding Next Year ..

These are just a few of the things I do on my Day's Off .. which are very few these days .. I'm generally squeezing in a fun Custom Day ..where I get to let my imagination have fun ..and design things outside our every day Farmhouse Home Linens ..

P.S. If you're in the Southern CA area or planning an event in the area and would like to rent the teepee or wedding Chairs be sure to contact Nancy and Kelly at Touched by Time Vintage Rentals .

Until Next Time...

Custom Farm ~ Brella ... A Sweet Magnolias Farm Original

Well I hope this post finds you all having a beautiful "almost fall" day .. we are on the official countdown to the first day of fall .. and we are nipping at it's heels .... I just wish the weather would cooperate here in our neck of the woods.

It's been exceedingly Hot here for the last week and half 100's + ... and I'm feeling it.... Yesterday it was well over 100 again but the reprieve was we got a little stormy weather .. the thunder clouds piled up the lighting and thunder arrived and a little bit of rain.. nothing much to add to our drought ridden land though .. .. there's only so long a person can handle that many days of constant heat before you begin to get a little irritable yesterday was that day for me..but this morning I'm feeling better.  I've tried staying indoors and pretty much have managed to do so ...but I'm definitely ready for some cool weather so we can throw open the doors and windows and let some refreshing breezes blow in .. it looks like we just may get a few cooler days starting tomorrow and I'm thrilled about that.

Yesterday I completed a custom Order for one of our Farm ~ Brella's ... it turned out really charming and I had to share some pictures .. these are always a one of a kind item I make so if I don't get photos you can just forget me remembering what they looked like or having the option to share ideas with clients wanting to purchase one ... ....

The combination of floral check and burlap fabrics look so beautiful together .. and I love the "Farm Fresh Truck" Design that we added to the burlap sections which was requested by the client ..

This will make the most charming display piece ..

When I am asked to make one our Farm ~ Brella's ..I always have to set aside a good amount of time to work on one .. It truly is a work of the heart .. Getting everything just the right size .. and to fit the skeleton of the umbrella frame is always a little challenging.. a good amount of hand sewing goes into these so they are very time consuming  ( we make each one from a vintage umbrella frame ) .. but in the end it's always worth the extra effort ..because I love how they turn out ..

This Farmbrella we made for "The Farmer's Wife" in Temecula Ca .. in 2012 ..
It looked absolutely lovely with her dishes she was offering at that time ..

Wishing you all a Day full of Joy !

A Beautiful day in the Sweet Magnolias Farm Garden

It's been a beautiful day here in our little house with out little garden.

It's not much of a garden not the way we dream of a garden being ..but it has just enough beautiful blooms this time of year to make us smile.

As I was out playing with Flossie this morning ..I noticed that all the pots were filled with an over abundance of blooms .. and I decided to go inside grab one of my old pint size milk bottles and fill it with a Fresh Spring Bouquet ..

It Turned out so Pretty if I do say so myself .. I love a natural flow to arranging flowers .. I personally am more of an english garden enthusiast where all the vines and flowers overflow into one another .

The front thick ruffled light pink blooms are "Rose Geranium" Those reminded me of the sweet friend who gave them to us .. Rita Read of Mammabellarte. One day when we were visiting her home ..we oooeeed and ahhhd over how unique a geranium it was to us ..and she was kind enough to pass on a clipping which we propogated and grew our own plant from .. This was it's first open bloom and there are more to come !

I added a sweet tattered scrap of burlap to the neck of the bottle and shredded buralp remnants from my sewing projects I stuck in here and there creating a cute spray coming out of the flowers.

This Geranium above I purchased a few years back when Target had their Garden Centers ... It's a "Peppermint Twist".. I loved when Target had their garden dept. They honestly got some  of the most  unique flowers not to mention David Austen Roses ..and some of the most beautiful Garden Decor too ! ...

Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the daisies above .. But I do know I still love their veregated hue ..These cam from the Armstrong Nursery ..Locally and they have a wonderful and unique variety of flowers not to mention their garden shop is so lovely to meander in .. I love going there and strolling the aisles of flowers and listening to the water fountains .. If I could only take a mattress I think I could sleep there all day !

It's just been a really lovely day .. a nice warm on shore breeze .. the Wind blew a bit late this afternoon and it was singing in the pines just across the lake from us .. it was a lovely sound and reminded me of the days we lived in Missouri on our farm. We had a huge stand of Pines and every time the wind blew or a storm came through .. the Pines had a Lovely Song to sing.

So Here's to a Beautiful Spring Afternoon ... a Glass of Pink Lemonade in My Mason Jar Pedestal Drinking Glass .. a lemon tucked on the side and the rim dipped in sugar !

We do offer the Mason Jar Pedestal Glasses in our Etsy Shop HERE

Wishing you all a Beautiful Week !

Finally ....they are here ...Our Farmhouse Romance "The Vintage Girl" Aprons And Totes ...

Honestly ..sitting down at the computer to offer my items has become so hard for me ..I am so into creating as of late ..that the hours spent taking pictures and listing an item cut into that time ...so I tend to put it off ..

But No longer ...This morning I got myself in Gear and Got some Listed ...

This Apron is one of my FAV'S ...."Strawberry Party " ...one of my favorite vintage linens I found throught the years ..with Embroidered strawberries is front and center ...makes me feel like tip toeing through the strawberry patch with a big basket ...

Meet "Farm Girl in Burlap" ...a fun design ..for those that don't want it too fussy ..but still want that feminine touch !! .. 3 deep pockets ..Beautiful aqua and tan strip rosettes ..and vintage eyelet ....

All of our Aprons and Totes are Custom Designs ...sometimes People don't understand the wording Custom Design ..and it actually has alot of meaning to us.

Each of our pieces is "NOT" made for a pattern you just run down to the store and grab. Mind you following a pattern can be tricky enough ..but each apron and tote we make ...we design as we go..ensuring that the vintage laces, and fabrics, and linens we use fit just right and look beautiful too.

Any one piece can take between 4 and 6 hours to create from start to finish ...yes it's rather time consuming but we do love our work ..and you can be sure that the piece you receive is full of Love ...!!!

We Hope you enjoy our aprons and totes ..there will be more to come ..we try to work on them everyday ..especially with 2 shows ahead of us ..we have alot of work to keep up with ...

Wising you all happy days ..full of Sunshine Dreams ..!!!
Blessings ...Sara
