A Grateful Heart ... free fall design

Well we are on countdown week till Thanksgiving ...

I can't believe Thanksgiving is already here .. it just seems a short while back I was watching fireworks shooting into the night sky and bursting into beautiful color..

And..

Here we are but a few months later and the weather has cooled and the leaves have changed to beautiful fall colors and many have drifted on the fall breeze to the earth below preparing for a long winters nap...

Well we're not quite to winter yet .. although I hear some of you in the higher elevations of the west and the east coast may have a beautiful blanket of white headed your way pretty soon.

I personally think I would really enjoy a white Thanksgiving this year .. although  I don't think there's any chance of that happening .. we are having an unusually warm fall here in the Ozarks .. I think today and tomorrow we are looking at breaking records today was 78 degrees here ! Looks like that's about to change Saturday much cooler temps are on the way Hooray !

Well now that we've talked of the weather...

I wanted to offer up a sweet little Thanksgiving Design I created this week. Please feel free to use it for your personal use. Print it out and make a cute poster .. or make some charming ornaments .. whatever you would like or just share on your blog or pinterest page whatever makes your heart happy...

And lets not forget to "Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart ..."

"Give thanks with a Grateful Heart"  ..is one of my favorite sayings I guess that's because it refers to so many scriptures in the Bible .. and a favorite praise song of mine that we sang in church..

Psalm 100:4, ESV Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

Psalm 107:1, ESV Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

 And these are the lyrics to the praise song I loved singing so very much ..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks unto the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given
Jesus Christ, His Son
And now let the weak say, "I am strong,"
Let the poor say, "I am rich,"
Because of what
the Lord has done for us.
Give thanks
Give thanks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So do you all have any fun Thanksgiving traditions ... ? One of my family members who has hosted Thanksgiving has a wonderful tradition. They purchased a basic tablecloth many years ago .. and each Thanksgiving whomever is at their table signs the cloth with something they are thankful for as well they have traced the hands of the kids on the tablecloth too. What a fun memory for the kids to look back on .. and to see what they were thankful for and how the size of their hand has grown throughout the years. Traditions are a beautiful thing no matter if you are just on your own or there is 2 or 3 or a dozen gathered for Thanksgiving . My parents and I celebrate Thanksgiving each year just the 3 of us ..by having our traditional favorite Thanksgiving foods .. and then we at some point in the evening sit and go through the Samaritan's Purse Gift Catalog and choose gifts for families in need.  To me that's the best part of Thanksgiving ..  knowing we are able to be bring joy to someone else that they too might take part in having a grateful heart.

I am so very grateful for all the Lord has done for me ..  It's always easy to be thankful in the good times .. but much harder to be thankful in the tough times .. but from experience I have learned I will thank him and praise him all the time ..

Wishing you all a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving

Until next time ..

Happy Fall Y'all .. have you decorated ? or do you need some inspiration !

It's a Beautiful Fall day here in Missouri. A Crisp cool morning turning to a warm sunshiny afternoon.

We had our first Fall favorite breakfast this morning ... and Oh boy was it ever delicious. Buttery Croissants and Piping Hot "Hot Chocolate."
We've been enjoying fall in our new home state. Slowly watching the leaves turn color on many of the trees from green to yellows, oranges, and vibrant reds. Other trees are already bare with just the twiggy branches showing now... and it's amazing to see what's on the other side of those leafless trees. The trees in this part of the country are very dense and it gives you the impression that there's a deep dark forest through that stand of trees .. but ultimately as the leaves fall and make way for a view you find homes tucked in hillsides and open pasture land with cows and horses grazing away in the sunshine just on the other side. Fall opens a whole new world of splendor to take in here.

Well I hate to say it but we're still searching for our Home Sweet Home. Honestly just never thought it would take this long . We missed out on two homes we really loved ..and it was our fault we just thought a bit too long about them and they sold. So we've been back on the hunt but due to the fact schools back in and it's fall headed into winter the market has slowed way down. And what we would really like in a home just hasn't presented itself yet. So we are patiently waiting to find the right place. It's a lot of money to spend and you kinda want to get it right and not be sorry for rushing into something and it not suiting our needs for home and work. We'll get there ..all in God's time !

In the meantime we have been enjoying pinning beautiful fall photos and decor ..

So do you all have your houses decked out for fall ?

If not and you want to and just need a bit of inspiration well we have loads of it for you ..

I can't wait till we finally get settled in to our own Home Sweet Home once and for all .. I tell Abbey all the time this is it .. I'm never moving again. And she tells me Never say Never .. LOL ! I know she's right but I'm still going to say it .. Anyhow... I was saying I can't wait to get into our home sweet home .. I've collected some cute old dresses and old straw hats and umbrellas to create my own one of a kind fall scarecrows .. I've got so many things I'm waiting patiently to do and share with y'all ...

Countdown To Thanksgiving are you READY ? Fall at Sugar Pie Farmhouse

Well the splendor of Fall has arrived .. ...

The Trees are turning to beautiful vibrant fall colors

 We used to live in the Ozarks of MO .... and this picture so very much reminded me of the beauty that the Ozarks offer. My Body left there but my heart stayed .. there is a splendor and a peace that I have never found anywhere I have been but in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks ..

The Air is turning crisp  .. the mornings dewy and  there's a lovely crisp fall breeze that bites at your nose.. the kind that makes you want to wrap up in your soft fall coat .. throw on a scarf that you can bury your nose in .. it's the kind of weather that I love .. especially when I lived in the Ozarks.

Then we had a lovely farm .. the house set atop a little hill .. and overlooked a large expanse of hay fields .. it had a raised front porch that was 40 feet long, the length of the front of the house .. and we lined it with old antique rockers we picked up at antique shops.  We found old wood troughs throughout the property and we drug them up to the house and used them as planters on the porch ..filling them with beautiful flowers for the seasons.

The Fall Nights were lovely spent on the front porch .. the citronella candle lanterns lined the porch railing .. while we bundled up in our blankets and just rocked  in the beautiful quiet of our country home. Some Nights we enjoyed the quiet and would speak a word or two ..but mainly we sat in silence drinking in the beauty of the serene quiet where only the sounds of nature could pierce the quiet countryside. Other nights we would bring out an old book.. and take turns reading it .. I remember one such book we enjoyed on that front porch was " The Story Girl" ... ah sweet memories ..

Life is definitely about making memories ... I can look back and say that I have good memories in my life .. oh there are bad ones too ..I won't fool you in to thinking any different .. but I love to remember the good ones .. to let them gather in my mind like a good seasoned pot of vegetable soup and to let them simmer throughout the day and enjoy the memories that I have of beautiful moments in my life.

Holidays are definitely about making memories ,... I'm certain we all have good and some not so good memories involving Holidays .. The important thing is we can make our Holidays into great memories be it if your single and a party of One or a Small family on their own ..or a great gathering of friends and family. We can take the initiative and make our holiday and house a home with beautiful lasting memories for ourselves and others.

I was just recently visiting my sweet friend Ruthanns blog ( Sugar Pie Farmhouse) or to many who know here "Aunt Ruthie" .. She has a great blog post titled "5 reasons why fun family traditions are so important"

and she's having a giveaway too ! .. Some charming items you won't want to miss out on trying to win ....

Fun Family Traditions are so important rather we are young or old .. I know some people out there that have amazing memories of Holidays in their homes and others that don't really have any ..

The important thing is that when we become adults we have the ability to continue making great holiday traditions or to begin making them if we haven't had them ..

There are some people in this big Ol' country of ours that just have a knack for teaching .. and well Aunt Ruthie is one of those dear sweet gals with that gift.

Recently she has started her Sweet Home Revival Series ..  a Video Series where she shares her home, her heart for the Lord, tips for keeping a home, recipes , and decorating ideas to make your house a little more homey !

From Aunt Ruthies Kitchen she shares with you how to make her favorite fall dessert "Butter Crunch Pumpkin Pie Bars" ... Oh Yummy !

One of my Favorites of the series are her Cup and Saucer Chats .. seriously just fun to hear her tips and information on how to cozy up your home...

Her First Time Pumpkin Growing Gives gals who have never planted anything a little hope ..Aunt Ruthie brought in a bumper crop of tiny pumpkins this year and are they adorable ! But not without a little problem with the ground hog ...

And how to set a Festive Fall table without breaking the bank ..yet it's absolutely darling .. I have to admit I love this table idea and my head started spinning with all sorts of spin off ideas ..LOL!

There are several other videos in the series .. I haven't mentioned you can check them out when you visit Aunt Ruthies blog.

I was blessed to receive the videos from her and have to say that she just does an amazing job Sharing and Teaching .. just being the encouraging women that the Lord has called her to be.

There are Two different Series this fall for a total of 6 videos

 .. so head on over and grab yourself the videos .. and you know what ~ these would be perfect to gift a friend or a young woman just starting out with a family with these videos .. they could really give a boost to a new wife or mother looking to fill her home with the comforts of family tradition ..

You can go grab your Sweet Home Revival Fall videos on her blog HERE

Wishing you all a very Happy Fall Y'all !

Vintage Thanksgiving Postcard ~ Sweet Magnolias Farm Free Clip Art and Printables

Hey You all .. Well it's been well over a week since I last posted .. This last week has been super busy getting the business ready for Christmas .. It's always strange for me to be designing and making Christmas in 100 degree heat .. It was like I needed a snow machine and to turn the AC on high so I could put on a sweater and pretend it was cold out..LOL !

I wanted to start today out with this Beautiful Thanksgiving Postcard from the early 1900's .. I love these old style cards with the glitter on them ..

This would be such a beautiful piece turned into a small plaque .. if you don't have the tools to cut wood ..you can buy premade plaques at your local craft store ( michaels, jo anns and hobby lobby) Even Home Depot has a section of precut wood pieces.

Simply Print this out to the size you would like .. then Use Modge Podge  to apply.  Add the Modge Podge directly to the wood . then lay your print on top and smooth it out gently with your hand making sure it applies evenly so there are no bubbles. Wait for it to Dry. Then coat the top with Modge Podge .... Drill a couple holes in the top corners and add your hanger ( ribbon, twine, wire etc) Or if you aren't handy with the drill Use Ribbon or Twine and hot glue the ends to each top corner on the back.   Then add some glitter to the front.. and you have a lovely Fall Plaque to enjoy that's been Made by You.

Happy Fall Y'all ... a look back at my Scarecrow Costume

Happy Fall Y'all

Well Fall is just a few days away ..and I've been reminiscing.

Many years back I worked as a waitress .. I worked for several restaurants one of which was "Marie Callender's" which is mainly here on the west coast but I know there were a few in other states as well.

During the Halloween season if you happened to be scheduled to work on Halloween night they would request that you would dress up .. Of course even then I loved harvest time and fall .. and what better costume than a scarecrow .. ! So Abbey and I devised this costume ..

( Picture was shot with those throw away camera's that were so popular at the time)

We bought a straw hat at the craft store .. along with some floral items .. a Black Bird, Sunflowers, Corn and Straw ..and attached them to the top of the hat ..with a mixture of Hot Glue and Wire, ( getting the bird to stay upright was a little challenging) It was funny though every time I tried it on and the poor bird just flopped over like it was dead .. I remember laughing till my belly hurt.

I wanted long straw hair ..but straw obviously would have been a bit messy so we made a wig from raffia .. and glued it way up inside the hat .

We used some of Abbey's make up and did up my face with a cute red nose with black stitches ..

Then I had a flannel already in my wardrobe and grabbed a pair of dad's old Wrangler jeans and with our craft paints we hand painted, sunflowers, a bird, a patch and hearts on the front of the jeans .the backs were painted too ..but we didn't photograph them all those years ago ..so I can't remember what was on the back .. other than I know I put a red bandana coming out of one pocket.

We Used Sisal Rope and made suspenders to hold up my oversized Dad Jeans... back then I was skinny and he was chunky ..all these years later ..we've had a bit of a role reversal ..he's skinny and I'm chunky ..LOL !

Lastly I wore a pair of Knit Garden Gloves in Black ..we cut holes and put raffia out the holes so I looked like a genuine scarecrow that had, had it's stuffing plucked out by the blackbirds .. we added raffia ties at my wrists and ankles for a little more genuine scarecrow style and a corn cob pipe to my shirt pocket and I was ready to go .. well not quite,

Being the skinny minny that I was back then ..I didn't quite have that nice robust stuffed scarecrow quality ..so we had to come up with stuffing and I mean last minute right before I was headed out the door to work.. so we grabbed Plastic grocery bags and started stuffing ..shirt, pants,  etc ... this is where I have a tip..

TIP :
 don't stuff your clothes with plastic bags .. Yah somehow we cleverly created the costume and got a little un-clever with the stuffing by not thinking through that in my job as a waitress on a busy Halloween night .. it lends to a gal perspiring and boy those plastic bags were a major killer .. ! Sweat wasn't the word for it .. Luckily I perspired without any odor ..thank goodness I would have been so thoroughly embarrassed.

The Fun thing was the plastic bags crinkled and crackled when I moved so I sounded like I was really stuffed with straw ..LOL !

It was a fun night ..the guests enjoyed my costume .. and I always love putting a smile on peoples faces so it was definitely a great night.

If you're headed to a Fall Festival in your local town or at a church ..etc .. a scarecrow makes a fun costume rather your 1 or 101 ..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's another gal that dressed up as a scarecrow ..and she's so adorable
